This upcycled men’s shirt is made from sprightly striped 100% cotton. It has been transformed into a comfortable ladies’ top with the addition of bold patterned cotton broadcloth in orange, pink, green, black and white.
The shirt measures 44 inches around the bust, has a 16 1/2 inch shoulder width and measures 28 inches from the shoulder at neck edge to front hem. Remember to allow an inch or two to your bust measurement for ease of movement.
Liisa Carbone is a collage artist and designer living in Summerside PEI who loves to work with unconventional, upcycled, often disregarded materials.
As a lifelong collector of 'interesting objects' and the grateful recipient of jewellery and button collections from both sides of my family I felt it a shame to hide these wonderful items in a drawer or jewellery box. Combining broken jewellery, buttons, beads and other found objects on wire mesh I work to create images that spark the imagination, celebrate treasures of our inherited past and evoke unexpected connections.
I also create one-of-a-kind tops and dresses combining men’s shirts with thrifted fabric items. I firmly believe that life is too short to wear boring – or uncomfortable – clothes.
